This advertisement features an endorsement from daredevil circus trapeze artist, Antoinette (Comeau) Concello (1910-1984), claiming that she is able to be so calm in the air due to Camels, as they “steady nerves.” Antoinette was a member of the family of aerial trapeze artists, the “Flying Concellos,” who toured with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus, among many others. She is featured performing “3 complete backward spins in mid-air,” which was her specialty – a trick no other woman flyer had ever been able to execute. Though the ad targets women, it doesn’t fail to get in a plug for men, as well, with an Army officer saying, “Camels are first with army men!”
