Quote:

No wonder the first thing Adeline Gray did when she reached the ground was to light up a Camel., Now a girl's life can't be all 'chutes and ships, can it? There must be moments now and then for soft lights sweet music a table for two and two cigarettes on one match.

Comments:

This advertisement makes use of a celebrity testimonial by Adeline Gray, the first human to live-test the nylon parachute in 1942, when she was 24 years old. The new nylon parachute was lighter weight and cheaper than the older, silk parachutes, and figured prominently in World War II. Adeline’s bravery and gumption make her an attractive role model for young women, and the copy text speaks directly to women in its opening lines: “Lady, oh lady, just picture yourself poised at the cockpit’s edge . . . .“ The ad also shows Adeline dressed up in a gown, a man offering her a Camel, showing women that they can be strong and brave but still feminine and alluring, all while smoking Camels.

Blue Collar, Female, Military, war
