This man hunkers down in the snow to fasten the chains to his tires, a difficult task which leaves him irritated. His glamorous, fashion-forward girlfriend doesn’t offer to help him with the task, but she does offer to look beautiful and provide him with an endless supply of Old Gold cigarettes. This ad was illustrated by Clark Agnew (1905-1959) who began his career in print assignments, and then progressed to television advertising; he created the dancing female Old Gold packs with beautiful legs for television and co-authored the book Television Advertising (1958). He sometimes signed his work “Ian Mansfield.”
