This advertisement for a filtered cigarette holder touts health claims that the “crystal filter” makes it impossible for nicotine and tar to “reach your nose, throat, and lungs.” An otolaryngologist lectures a couple on the way the filter “works.” With a cigarette and DeNicotea filter in hand instead of a pointer, he gestures to a chart titled “Here is the Proof” which shows a before and after picture – the filter pure white before use, and stained with tar after use. The fact that the filter has been stained with tar is supposed to prove that the filter prevents any of these tars from entering your throat, though obviously this is not proof in the slightest.
