By setting the add on a boat with effusive and energetic characters, Skoal is able to make an association between their tobacco and fun, energetic adventures. The man centered in the ad appears to be reeling in a big catch, while looking at the viewer with a sense of success and excitement. This makes the viewer feel included in the action, reminding the audience that tobacco can be a helpful tool in being accepted in social situations. In addition, the bright orange and blue contrasts draw the eye away from the warning labels and towards the action enjoyed by the individuals who--presumably--use Skoal.
