Dorothy Poynton-Hill (1915-1995) was a two-time American Olympic Gold Medalist in 10-meter platform diving, as well as a Silver and Bronze Olympic medalist in 3-meter springboard diving. She claims that Camels aid digestion “by speeding up the flow digestive fluids and increasing alkalinity,” which helps her stay steady when she flies off the diving board. Camel cleverly relates Poynton-Hill’s athleticism and bravery to Camels, urging young women, who look up to her daredevil ways and her skills, to smoke. In order to maintain male interest in the brand, Camel includes two black-and-white testimonials from male smokers at the bottom of the ad.
