The comic advertisement on the left features a circus performer talking to his wife. When he mentions that the “India Rubber Man” (a contortionist) “was coughing so bad he nearly turned inside out,” his wife recommends Old Golds. The circus performer agrees, stating that Old Golds are the only cigarettes he can smoke, as the others “burn my throat.” The comic on the right presents receiving an Old Gold as a reward for job well done as a “grand and glorious feelin’.” Both comics, part of a small book, were illustrated by Clare A. Briggs (1875-1930).
