“Old Gold was created because a throat-easy cigarette was needed,” this ad explains. Old Golds are supposedly “free of all throat-irritating impurities,” described as “gentle and kindly.” A healthful cigarette? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And who knows what the figure, “61% of all illness begins at the THROAT” truly means for smokers?
