This poor U.S. Army officer has enough to manage, trying to hold on to a bunch of Christmas presents, the family terrier, and a crying baby, when the baby bonks him on the head with her rattle. His wife comes to his rescue just in time, offering an Old Gold instead of a hand. The ad was illustrated by Dorothy Monet (1919-2010), one of a small handful of female advertisement illustrators of the time.
