Quote:

To every feminine smoker this is special important- yes, vital! For this is the difference between Philip Morris and other cigarettes found and reported by eminent doctors- who compater the leading cigarettes: Smoke of the four other leading popular brands averaged more than three times as irritating- and their irritation lasted more than five times as long as the strikingly contrasted Philip Morris!

Comments:

Johnny Roventini (1910-1998), the famous Philip Morris spokesperson, grins proudly as he holds up a pack of Philip Morris cigarettes in this ad targeted directly toward women. A beautiful young woman sits at a desk, tapping her cigarette in an ash tray as she answers the telephone. The copy text is identified as “vital” information “to every feminine smoker.” The false health claims abound: According to the ad, “eminent doctors” agree that Philip Morris are the least irritating of the four leading brands of cigarettes. The text insists that even when you inhale smoke, “you can help your throat” by smoking Philip Morris, as they are “real protection for your sensitive woman’s throat.” The ad is masquerading as helpful, while it is actually manipulative, capitalizing on the public’s worries over smoking-related health conditions.
