Quote:

Ballet star Kathyrn Lee has her own reasons form her own experience: during the wartime cigarette shortage, I tried many different brands, says Miss Lee. I compared them and learned by experience that Camels suit my T-Zone' to a 'T'. I've smoked Camels ever since!

Comments:

This ad combines the “T-Zone” campaign with the “More Doctors Smoke Camels” and “Experience is the Best Teacher” campaigns. With all of these techniques, the ad attempts to simultaneously provide the consumer with a sense of independence and autonomy – a common tactic in cigarette advertising, even today – while also providing reassurance and recommendation from doctors and celebrities. Here, Broadway ballerina Kathryn Lee (1926-2004) endorses Camels and shows off her athletic prowess. She is depicted smoking a cigarette in her ballet costume, tying smoking to good health and athleticism.
