Come live with me, and be my love: and we will all the pleasures prove that hills and valleys, dales and fields, words or steepy mountain yields. - Christopher Marlow
The new bride leans on her groom’s chest and takes a drag from his cigarette. Benson & Hedges appeals further to the claim for purity, represented by the bride’s white dress, by advertising its unique filter mouthpiece which is “recessed so that only the flavor touches your lips.” This ad quotes a famous love poem, “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” (1590s), written by Renaissance poet and playwright Christopher Marlowe (1564-1593). The excerpt from the poem is an attempt to ad romance, sophistication, and history to the advertisement.
