Comments:

Famous pin-up artist George Petty (1894-1975) illustrated this beautiful, young bride in a slinky satin dress that leaves nothing to the imagination. Far from being the pure bride dressed in white, this woman is decked out in gold to mimic the tones of the “Old Gold” cigarette label. The ad plays with the number of cigarettes in a pack of Old Golds – 20 – and the likely age of this sensual bride. At the end of the copy text, the question is posed: “Do you wonder that every day more wise smokers marry Old Golds?” This advertisement thus compares the choice in a cigarette is to the choice in lifetime partner.
