The magnificent advance made in guarding health by fighting illness before it strikes is still another proud chapter in the history of the medical profession.
The image of a doctor speaking with a mother and her child is heart-warming, as the advertisement salutes doctors and health advancements they have made in preventative medicine. With the cigarette ad below, and the doctors’ supposed support of the cigarette, a connection is made between good health in children and smoking. By 1955, when the child featured in this ad would be a teenager, it is virtually certain he would become an avid smoker. By the turn of the millennium, If he kept at it and if he was still alive, he would almost certainly be suffering the adverse effects of long term smoking. So much for preventative care!
