I'm going to grow to a hundred years old! It's a fact a warm, wonderful fact that this five-year-old child, or your own child, has a life expectancy almost a whole decade longer that was her mother's, and a good 18 to 20 years longer than her grandmother.
The image of a doctor speaking with a mother and her child is heart-warming, as the advertisement salutes doctors and health advancements for increases in life expectancy. With the cigarette ad below, and the doctors’ supposed support of the cigarette, a connection is made between life expectancy – or at least good health – and smoking. It is ironic, of course, that the average long-term smoker loses 10 years or more of expected lifespan. So, yes, little girl, you might “grow a hundred years old,” but not if you smoke these cigarettes.
