Some tobacco advertising uses ploys that would be considered highly offensive and unthinkable by today’s standards. A racist caricature, references to the Civil War, small children giving their favorite cigarette brand, a baby next to a tobacco pouch, and a caricature of a “gay boy”—these advertisements are antiquated.
