Quote:

Though a box of fragrant Abdullas seldom lasts as long as a bouquet, it imparts a more exquisite and intimate pleasure. Abdulla's many fascinating Blends of Cigarettes appeal to the most varied types and temperaments. Your most fastidious friends will find enchantment in a Turkish Egyptian, or Virginia Abdulla.

Comments:

This advertisement, illustrated by Lewis Baumer (1870-1963), also the artist for Pall Mall Magazine, features an elegant, fashionable young woman delicately holding a box of cigarettes in one hand and a lit cigarette in the other, exhaling with pleasure. The ad targets men looking for a gift for a girlfriend or a wife – “Instead of saying it with flowers – drive it home with Abdulla cigarettes.” The ad refers to both the cigarette and the woman as “The Flower of Virginias,” providing the cigarettes with a gentle and genteel association. This early image pre-dates the onset of major mass marketing efforts by tobacco companies to target women.
