Comments:
This advertisement claims that even in its rivals’ strongholds, people prefer Old Golds to the other leading cigarette brands in blind taste tests. In this “concealed name” cigarette test, each of the four leading brands has a “mask” wrapped over its brand name on the cigarette paper, so the smoker cannot see which brand is which. Old Gold claims that it ranks third in sales at the Roosevelt Field airport in New York, but that 23 of 68 of the airport’s aviators and mechanics chose Old Gold as their favorite. By highlighting both aviators and mechanics, Old Gold appeals to smokers of all social standings.
