Actress Barbara Stanwyck (1907-1990) provides the celebrity testimonial for this Lucky Strike advertisement. The ad also provides publicity for producer Samuel Goldwyn and for her newest film, “Stella Dallas.” In this ad, Luckies are presented as “gentlest on her throat.” The ad is also a Stanwyck was a four-time Academy Award nominee, three-time Emmy Award winner, and a recipient of a Golden Globe award. She struggled with lung problems for many years, and was eventually admitted to Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California, where she passed away from congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
