Comments:

This Chesterfield ad features Arthur Godfrey (1903 - 1983), famous radio and TV broadcaster. Not only is the ad advertising Chesterfield cigarettes, but it also serves as publicity for Godfrey, advertising his radio show, “Arthur Godfrey Time” as well as his network, CBS. He supported Chesterfield cigarettes for many years; however, he publicly switched his loyalties to anti-smoking education when he was diagnosed with lung cancer and his doctors convinced him smoking was the cause in 1959. He had already quit smoking in 1953 during his recovery from hip surgery. He later received radiation to treat his lung cancer, but passed away from emphysema in 1983.
