Comments:

Famous tennis star William T. Tilden II (1893-1953) endorses Lucky Strike, claiming that the toasting process “frees this cigarette from throat irritation.” Lucky’s slogan, “No Throat Irritation – No Cough” furthers this unfounded health claim. In Lucky’s later ads, a simple “it’s toasted” slogan was used to send the same message without blatantly making false claims. Tilden is listed in this ad as a “famous dramatic star” because of his acting role in the 1927 film “The Music Master.” He passed away from a stroke in 1953. Studies have linked smoking to an increased risk of stroke.
