Genuine Cork Tip to Protect the Lips

Comments:

This Herbert Tareyton ad offers to “protect the lips” with its cork tipped cigarettes, meant to prevent the cigarette from sticking to the smoker’s lips. The “celebrity” endorser, Mr. J. Bond Rogers, is listed as a New York socialite and a “winter sports enthusiast.” He would know a thing or two about rough weather and chapped lips if he is always out in the cold weather to watch snow sailing, even if he is in such a luxurious fur coat. His socialite status also provides the cigarette with an air of sophistication, which suits the “Discriminating people prefer” slogan, while his status as an Army veteran ads a subtle patriotism to the advertisement. The ad touts a “naturally filtered smoke,” connoting a more healthful cigarette.
