The image and the text of this advertisement don’t quite match up: an alluring woman smokes a cigarette next to text that reads, “for your throat’s sake.” Women at the time were concerned that smoking would be too harsh and irritate their throats, so this advertisement seeks to eliminate those concerns by showing a woman smoking the cigarettes, and telling readers that the cigarette actually prevents sore throats.
