Quote:

A partly Turkish cigarette is like a partly good meal or a partly truthful statement. Food, truth, and cigarettes to be right must be 100% good.

Comments:

Before 1926, women in tobacco ads were often portrayed as exotic and provocative, rather than as respectable “girls next door” or well-mannered American women. This women dressed in the garb of an exotic oriental beauty has pale skin, light brown hair, and rosy cheeks, an exoticized version of what might otherwise be the “girl next door” in Kansas. This mixed representation allows the exotic woman to become more approachable for an American man. She holds a giant box of Murad cigarettes high on a gold platter.

Keywords:

Female, Luxury, Orientalist, woman
